Grief is a natural reaction after the death of someone close. Yet in our society few people are prepared for the intensity and duration of the grief process. OUR HOUSE grief support center was founded on the premise that grievers need understanding, support, and connection. If you or someone you care about is grieving, OUR HOUSE is here to help.

OUR HOUSE grief support groups create a warm environment of safety and comfort in which children, teens, and adults find the support they need from others who have also experienced the death of someone close. Led by highly trained volunteers, groups are age- and relationship- specific. OUR HOUSE also offers grief support groups in our local schools helping grieving children in low-income, underserved areas of Los Angeles County.

The Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, an organization of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, was established in 1994 to improve the nutrition and well-being of Americans. Their latest effort has been Choose My Plate, a dietary guidance plan.

This program and website focuses its efforts on two primary objectives:
  1. Advance and promote dietary guidance for all Americans, and
  2. Conduct applied research and analyses in nutrition and consumer economics.
School Mental Health professionals support positive student connections with peers, family, school and community to facilitate student development. They also facilitate the ability to successfully deal with problems, crises, or traumatic experiences. Furthermore, School Mental Health professionals foster resiliency - the ability to bounce back from challenges with a stronger sense of self-confidence and coping capacity - by promoting healthy relationships, self-reflection, and problem-solving skills to optimize school success.

The Department of Public Health recognizes that parenting has its share of challenges, and we are so glad that you found your way to this information. You may be a parent, grandparent, foster parent, neighbor, or mentor. No matter your title, you are an important role model in your teen’s life, and supporting their mental health is vital to their wellbeing. We are pleased to share information and resources with you that support your teen as they learn, grow, and overcome challenges.

If you are a parent or guardian accessing this toolkit because your teen is currently, or close to, experiencing a crisis involving physical or verbal outbursts, or even thoughts of hurting themselves, please skip to the section titled What to Do in a Crisis.
