Beginning Strings (Period 6)
Course Description
Beginning Strings (AKA Strings A) is a one year course. Beginning Strings students will learn and review basic musical skills necessary for promotion to the more advanced ensembles, including (1) good tone production, (2) good intonation, (3) proper note reading, (4) rhythmic accuracy, (5) proper technique, (6), attention to the conductor, (7) practice and preparation for rehearsal, (8) listening skills, (9) attention to detail, (10) basic music theory.
Beginning Strings students are required to practice a minimum of four hours per week outside of the classroom. (This is your "homework.") Tests will be given periodically to assess progress. Participation in all performances is MANDATORY. (Please enter all performance dates and times on your personal calendars to avoid conflicts.) A minimum grade point average of 2.00 is required to be academically eligible to perform. Rules for classroom behavior are to be followed at all times. Grading is established by daily growth based upon my observations. Each performance accounts for 10% of your final grade.
