Beginning Band (Period 4)
Course Description
Beginning Band (AKA Band MS A) is a one year course. Beginning band students will learn and review basic musical skills necessary for promotion to more advanced ensembles, including (1) good tone production, (2) good intonation, (3) proper note reading, (4) rhythmic accuracy, (5) proper technique, (6) attention to the conductor, (7) practice and preparation for rehearsal (8) listening skills, (9) attention to detail, (10) basic music theory.
Beginning Band students are required to practice a minimum of four hours per week outside of the classroom. (this is your "homework.") tests will be given periodically to assess progress. Participation in all performances is MANDATORY. (Please enter all performance dates and times onto your personal calendars to avoid conflicts.) A minimum grade point average of 2.00 must be maintained to be academically eligible to perform. Rules for classroom behavior are to be followed at all times. Grading is established by daily growth based upon my observations. Each performance accounts for 10% of your final grade.
