Welcome to Mrs. B. Escalante's Web Page for United States History 8.  I look forward to having a successful,enriching, and educational year with my students.
 
The district has mandated that we will be using Schoology as the new grade platform. This will be connected to google drive as well. Students can get assignments and post assignments to their classes. 
I will be using it slowly at first as this is new to me as well. I will be able to inform you at a later date how to access your students grades. To access grades students will need to have computers and internet at home as well as at school.
 
 Finally, you may sign-up here for notification of homework assignments to be sent to your phone.  It will notify you about homework and classwork that will be coming due.  Each member of your family may sign up to get these notifications.  Each person will have their own link once they subscribe to each class they wish to be notified about homework. Remember to sign up in the individual class for the homework notification, not just on my home page.

Students can get up to 100 points of extra credit depending upon the quality of work for an informational brochure on the role of the citizen in the United States. Some examples are included.
The brochure can be typed or handwritten in blue or black ink. Pencil submissions will be downgraded by 50%. The pictures can be printed or hand drawn. There must be three panels on each side in landscape format.

 Here is Chapter 3 of the Creating America Textbook for students who do not have a textbook. The pages are not numbered the same, but the material is exactly the same as in the text. This is an older version of the text. I will publish this so that the textbook is accessible to all students.

Homework: Parents & students read and sign the Course Overview and Classroom Contract these will be placed in the homework section of their portfolio notebook. As classwork today, students read and signed the Portfolio Contract to place in their portfolio notebook in the classwork section.
Please do not cut the tear-off as these will be placed in student Portfolio notebook for a grade. They will also have a grade for their portfolio review.
 
Note: Students can use the Classroom Contract to study for the Class Rules Quiz tomorrow.
 
Course Overview and Classroom Contract is due on Friday, 8/18.
