Assignment

First off, sorry for missing a few days of posting homework. The new testing schedule has made it very difficult for me to plan ahead, so we have not had a graded homework assignment in a week or so.

This week testing continues, so there won't be any homework until next week at least.

But there is an extra credit assignment:

Bring in an advertisement for a toy, game, candy, or restaurant. The ad should be a full-page ad from a magazine. That's it.

Ads are due by Monday 5/12 for extra credit.

Assignment

Agenda for Monday, 4/28

1) Smarter Balanced testing

Today the students took the new Smarter Balanced test. This replaces the CST as the end of the year test for all California students.

Because this is the first year of this entirely new test, the scores will not count. Kids are encouraged to do their best, but parents should know that if your child has technical difficulties that interfere with the test, that will not hurt your child's grade or academic standing in any way. This applies for the math test as well.

This is the first me I have used Jupiter Grades as a teacher (My son went to Portola, which uses it for all teachers). So I am sure there will be some features that take a little getting used to. I tried to email grade sheets on Tuesday, only to find that the internet features of the gradebook program I use are broken. I don't have any idea it will take for them to fix this problem—to be honest I don't expect they will fix it, as they are trying to upsell their users on their online service.

So I'm looking for something to replace this useful feature but I can't imagine it will be this semester. I'll see what I can do over winter break.
