Mile FAQ

We often here the same questions about the mile. Here are a few answers to the most common question and concerns.

Q.  Is my grade based on only the Mile?

A.  NO.   Your mile time is worth only 20% of your grade. Although,  if you walk the mile or do not put effort into it, this could hurt your participation scores as well.

Q.  Do I get credit for improving my time?

A.   Absolutely!! We love to see you beating your best score. All of us give improvement scores when we see you have beaten your personal best.

Q.   Why do I have to make up my mile if my mom wrote me a note?

A.   We are happy to excuse you for the day when you are sick or injured and have a note from your Parent or Guardian. The note will excuse you for that day only, but just like any abscence you need to make up the work you have missed. You can make up your missing mile on the following Tuesday. If the mile is not made up it will be counted as "Missing" and will go into the gradebook as a ZERO!! Please make up your missing miles.

Q.  Is three laps of the field really a Mile?

A.   No. It is a little LESS than a mile. When you go to high school or run for a track team you will notice the difference in time, but it should only add between 25-30 seconds onto your time.

Q.  Why do we have to run the mile?

A.  It strengthens your heart and keeps you healthy!! It is also part of the  California Physical Fitness Testing. This gives you a chance to see all of your training pay off, when you see how much better you doing than the rest of the kids in this State!!
