Principal's Message

Principal's End Of The Year Letter

June 9, 2017

Hale Charter Academy Parents, Teachers, and Students,

The end of the school year is here. It seems hard to believe that this year has gone by so quickly. Culmination was a big success and our 8th graders are ready to move on to High School. We experienced many wonderful events to mark the end of their three years at Hale; the 8th grade awards ceremony, the 8th grade picnic, yearbook purchases and the PTSA Grad night. 8th graders, as you look ahead I hope you will remember the successes you have achieved at Hale Charter Academy. It is our sincere hope that you will continue to achieve your dreams and goals throughout your lives.

In reflection, we have had many schoolwide achievements this year. Preliminary results of the California Standards Assessments reveal that our students continue to be amongst the best in LAUSD. We are so proud of their effort!  We have also continued to increase in both the access and use of instructional technology.  These achievements were highlighted during our annual Charter Review, earning Hale recognition as a high achieving charter school.
With our established and exemplary AVID and School for Advanced Studies programs, our students continued to excel in a college preparatory curriculum. Our remarkable teachers focus on writing, interdisciplinary projects, and the use of technology.

We completed our first successful year of our Visual and Performing Arts Academy (VAPA). The talent that our students showcased throughout the year in our Visual and Performing Arts electives was unforgettable. We thank our incredible elective teachers for their dedication and hard work.  We applaud our dedicated VAPA core-subject teachers for their commitment to developing new curriculum and creating co-curricular experiences that provide unique educational opportunities that only Hale can offer.

We also completed our first successful year of the STEAM Academy, which will transition into our Highly Gifted STEAM Magnet starting with next year’s 6th grade students. These dynamic teachers focused on developing a math, technology and engineering centered curriculum. The Northrup Grumman sponsored program showed its strength and success by placing at the L.A. County Science Fair and in many Robotics competitions.

Hale continues to be a fun place to learn. Leadership and School Clubs enrich our campus and bring wonderful experiences to our school and the community. We had countless sensational events, whether on stage, in the classroom or on the PE field, allowing students to shine throughout the year.

We need to say farewell to seven of our amazing staff members. Ms. Vann, Ms. Harnish, Ms. Shapiro, Mr. Mansur, Mr. Taguchi, Ms. Nomura, and Ms. Joy. We thank you for your contributions to the students at Hale and wish you well in your retirement or new endeavors.
I offer a sincere thank you to our parents and our fantastic PTSA for all of the support throughout the year. Without this support, we would not be able to celebrate Hale’s continued achievements.

Thank you for making my second year as Principal of Hale Charter Academy a success. Have a fun and restful summer.

Mr. Perdigao
