Dear Parent:

Welcome to the Hale Charter Academy Magnet Program. The CTE Computer Science curriculum is based on the new CTE state standards which can be viewed here: https://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/ct/sf/documents/infocomtech.pdf

Course Description:
This course will introduce you to computer programming and the design of algorithms. By writing programs to solve problems in areas such as image processing, text processing, and simple games, you will learn about recursive and iterative algorithms, complexity analysis, graphics, data representation, software engineering, and object-oriented design. We will be using computer science platforms such as Scratch, Kodu, MineCraft, Code.org and CS First just to name a few.  Robotics and Coding devices will be used to enhance coding and computer skills. No previous programming experience is necessary.
 
Attendance Policy
Regular and prompt class attendance is an essential part of the educational experience. Hale M.S. expects students to exercise good judgment regarding attendance and absences. Students will accept full responsibility for missed assignments and will be given an opportunity to make up work for excused absences.

Classroom Expectations/Requirements:
1. Be on time for class
2. Be respectful to teachers and peers at ALL times
3. Be responsible for your learning by preparing for class and bringing all necessary materials to class.

Electronics Policy:
All electronics must be put away and out of use at all times in the classroom. Laptop computers will be an integral part of your child’s education and will be used frequently in my class. Parents, please familiarize yourselves with Schoology, as it will provide real time feedback on you child’s academic progress as well as track missing or incomplete work.

Plagiarism, Cheating, and Academic Integrity:
Plagiarism and cheating are considered serious offenses and will significantly affect your course grade, and in some cases, your graduation status. Please refer to the Student Code of Conduct booklet for additional information.

Homework Policy:
Homework is assigned regularly and all unfinished daily classwork automatically becomes homework.

Grading Scale:
100-90% = A, 89-80% = B, 69-60% = D, 59-0 FAIL.
 
Work Habits / Cooperation: Based on completion of assignments in a timely fashion. Grade is base on task behavior, participation and the level of appropriate social skills. If any student is tardy 3 times a U will be assigned.
 
 E – Excellent  S - Satisfactory  U - Unsatisfactory
